Dukas – Bizet – Debussy – Ravel: Musique Francaise Pour Deux Pianos – Beroff – Collard – EMI

Covers + lossless, Not my Rip

The playing is never less than refined, transparent, and fastidious. The sustaining pedal is used sparingly, even in such an early Debussy work as Petite suite. Inner voices come through with rare quality… In 1994, Collard and Bèroff returned to the studios for Rapsodie espagnole, Jeux d’enfants, L’apprenti sorcier, Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, and the two Nocturnes. Tempos remain faster for some selections than in many competing versions, but a slight degree of rubato is present in pieces such as “Petit mari, petite femme!” from Jeux d’enfants. Phrase contours are less linear, more supple, to good effect in L’Apprenti sorcier; and Rapsodie espagnole receives one of its best performances on disc… [S]hould you want a duo-piano version of Rapsodie espagnole, this one can’t be bettered.
